Antlerless moose debate divides Alaska hunters by Tim Mowry

FAIRBANKS — There are two basic schools of thought when it comes to antlerless moose hunts. “Some hunters find it unethical to shoot cows and some people are just looking for meat for their freezers,” Ray Heuer, chairman of the Fairbanks Fish and Game Advisory Committee, said in summing up the issue. “It’s a tough to balance those.” But that’s precisely what Heuer and the other 14 members of the Fairbanks advisory committee must do. They’re not the only ones. Three other advisory committees — Delta, Minto-Nenana and Middle Nenana — are facing the same situation.
